Dr.Don
Dr.Don's presentation was really enjoyable and entertaining. I really liked that he had a different PowerPoint presentation. He made it very interactive and just easier for me to understand since I'm a very visual person. He focused mostly on talking about critical thinking and it's importance and many aspects. I agree with him that we need to dissect things and not really trust certain information that presented to us in, any situation because we need to think outside the box. This also promotes a high level of thinking which is obviously critical thinking and in oder to achieve this we can't just stay inside the box. He moved on to saying how there must diverse professors at the university and that he hopes for many different people to work at the university and as a minority myself I feel very comforted at his thoughts towards diversity. Then came the major lecture and how you should choose something you like.A major that has academic focus and then you can going into narrow focus. That was very interesting and encouraging to those who don't have a major and are pursuing to choose one. He said key to the critical thinker is memorizing ,being able to take certain information and really get to know it. He says the play it safe and take risks which is a really big oxymoron. He goes on saying how we must trust and don't trust. He gives a short lecture on how we should enjoy college and not think about our career right now just settle in the environment. He also says music is a mashup of critical thinking. I love music and I totally agree with him. He then presents us with our resources such CLAS and how it can help us. UCSB is just a big resource! Also the physics lectures which can promote very interesting facts and there's free food.! Now moving on from the presentation to my week. I had a fireside chat me and it was an eye opener the presenter or speaker I should say was an engineer and he pretty much gave me a lot of information on the major I'm speaking which is bioengineering and he says that there's a new program so I might look into it. I also went to the pool for the first time and it was nice and refreshing didn't think that I would get a tan but I did which is okay since it looks nice on me.
